In 2003 a group of enthusiastic women decided to develop samesex dancesport in SA. After contacting the existing dancesport studios in Adelaide they compiled a list of gay friendly venues and circulated this information through the gay media and email contact lists.
The committee affiliated with Team Adelaide and promoted classes in different areas of Adelaide.
Their next vision was to organize an annual national competition for samesex dancers, giving South Australians the opportunity to prepare for international gay competitions. The competition was to be linked with the Feast program. The aim was to get our dancers ’out’ there at a time when Australian Dancesport Rules only allowed a male/female couple to be judged in competitions.
As they say ‘the rest is history’. The committee continues to build on the strong foundation that the original set in place.
